Hello, everyone. I Didn't create this Xbox 1 Application for Halo 1. But, I did ask permission to dominater01 at emuxtras.net,the
original uploader. And he asked xbox warez to give me the go ahead to post it here! So, thank them, please.

Halo Cache Editor v0.8 beta 2
=============================
by XBOX War3z & NikeJustDoItOk

First of all thx for downloading this new version :)
Check the bottom of this file for contact information

=========
= NOTES =
=========

* Check out the new hex editor!
* The nickname changer might be useful to some people without UnleashX or some other
program that can change the xbox nickname. It is more advanced than most of the
nickname changers out there.
* Map decompression is coming very soon!
* The fly setting now automatically changes the tank and warthog physics to ghost and resets back to normal when fly is off.

==================
= SETTING UP HCE =
==================

* Extract this rar somewhere on your computer (eg: C:\XBOX\HCE).
* Open the config file (eg: C:\XBOX\HCE\config.ini).
* Fill in the region you want to use.
* Give the correct paths to your halo xbe (you can use D:\default.xbe
because HCE does not reboot on eject).

* Upload all the files to your xbox (eg: /E/Apps/HCE/).
* Make sure your dash autodetects the new app or add it yourself.

=============
= USING HCE =
=============

* Launch the app...

* If no cache is found it shows the start screen.

* Press White and a menu will pop up with the found cache files.
* Use your dpad to move to the desired file and press A.

Now you can start editing :)

* Dpad up/down to move between the items.
* Left column is the original name, right column is the changed value.
* Use the left/right trigger to move between pages.

* If you want to change an item there are 3 options:

***** Byte Swapping *****
* When you press A your selection will stay and a new one will show.
* You can now move this one to the item you want it to change to.
* Press A again and it'll go back to your item and the item is changed.

***** Option Swapping *****
* When you press A a new menu will popup with the options you can choose.
* Select your desired option and press A.
* Pressing B will cancel the change and go back to your selection.

***** Value Change *****
* When you press A your selection will stay.
* Use your DPAD to change the value and press A again to accept the change.
* Pressing B will cancel the change.

* Pressing X will show the meta page for supported items.
* Meta page can support all the normal options.
* In meta press X to reset or B to save and go back.

* After you changed all the items you want press Y to save.

* You can repeat this step with the other cache files.

* If you press Start, a menu will pop up with the location you've set in config.ini.
* Select the one you want, press A, and wait a second while halo starts.
* You can press black to go back to your dash.

==========
= EXTRAS =
==========

* In the cache select menu (WHITE) you can:
- Delete a file (X)
- Hex edit a file (Y)
- Load/save a file (Black)
* In the menu (press BACK):
- Hex Editor
* You can select any file on the xbox hard drive to edit. You will not be able
to save the files on the DVD drive.
* To edit a value, press A.
* To find a value, press Y.
* To jump to a certain offset, press X.
- Patch Cache File
* This will allow you to patch a cache file with a PPF patch.
* Select the PPF patch and press A.
* Select the cache you want to patch and press A to patch or X to undo.
* Undo only works if the PPF supports it.
- Load Cache File
* This feature allows you to save a cache file to the hard drive that can be
loaded into cache later. This could be used to load cache files into cache
so you do not have to load them in halo first. It could also be used to save
modified cache files for later use.
* To restore (load) a cache file into cache, simply select the cache file you
wish to restore.
* NOTE: The single player cache files are very big (278 MB). However, The
multiplayer maps are only 47 MB and the UI is even smaller (35 MB).
- Clear the cache files
* All the cache files will be deleted and the menu with the locations will
show so you can start Halo again.
- Change region and skin
* Each change is remembered so when you restart HCE it'll still use your own
region and skin.
- View GameType Files
* This will be used later to edit gametype files.
- View Nicknames
* This can be used to add, delete, and edit nicknames in the xbox nickname
cache.
* The xbox is set up so there are up to 50 nicknames saved on the hard drive.
Each nickname has a title ID associated with it that tells what game the
nickname came from. Any nickname added will take the title ID of Halo.
* To add a nickname, select the nickname below where you want to add it and
press A.
* To delete a nickname, select the nickname and press X.
* To edit a nickname, select the nickname and press A.
* NOTE: Halo only uses the first nickname on the xbox.
- Information
* This shows information about us and HCE.
* You can see the current cache partition drive letter used by Halo.
* There is a frame rate monitor that shows the exact frame rate of the input
and user interface threads.
* If you only have one location set in config.ini and the menu should show,
it will automaticly start that xbe.

============
= SKINNING =
============

* To make your own skins I recommend using HCEC (HCE Customizer).
* This is a WYSIWYG skin editor so it is very easy to make a skin without need to
test it everytime.
* For a background you can use any regular jpg, bmp, png file.
- Size must be 640x480 and the name should be background.jpg.
* If you are using another filename (eg: somebmp.bmp) put at the end of skin.ini:
Background = somebmp.bmp.

Thanks! :) I know that this doesn't go here, but I heard of the halo 2 cache editor, as well. Know anything about it?

A Halo 2 cache editor that runs on the Xbox? No, can't say it rings any bells

Once again, last activity was in 2004. To top it off, there's no actual halo-related code in it lol

The halo cache editor v0.7 was the tool that got me into halo modding. Thanks for posting this! I hope others can have as much fun with it as I have throughout the years!
