While we may have opened the doors today, we're far from where we want to be in terms of a "Halomods" community. Voice site concerns or other suggestions here. Be sure to be as detailed/descriptive as possible in your posts!

TODO List:
  • Finish Halomods theme (isn't setup to handle all of our content portals just yet. eg, it doesn't look so nice on the calender).
  • Build the Halomods wiki
  • Finalize Awards (they won't be handed out until they're finalized).
  • Finalize Downloads setup and layout.
  • Transfer offsite tutorials into our Tutorials forum using our tutorial system (tutorials, tutorials, tutorials...)

Though I'm not hurt about scrapping the old site and starting fresh, is there a way to at least get the files stored on the old Halomods back here? I was hoping to get some old Halomods content back.

Can we be allowed to delete our own posts, please?

Community content seems like something which should be above game discussion imo.

Additionally the awaiting moderation thing seems kinda unneeded too, especially when there's hardly anyone here yet.

I can only seem to view Blam engine games, and Community Content forums.I only made it to this topic because there are links to it on the main page for recent topics.

Yeah the offtopic boards don't show up, also I think we should start adding standard content. Mod tools, tutorials etc...

Also, because of this, perhaps remove the email validation to complete the registration (the email didn't come until like 10 minutes later).

The site is a bit slow too, might just be my internet though, but remnnant loads so much quicker. Also why not merge the 'user lounge' and 'forums'?

edit:

You've got to click on user lounge at the top

This too, unless you're planning more content relevant sections I guess.

As far as the old Halomods site goes, I would be for hosting a read-only subdomain with the forum and such (I have the database and file forum's files). However, it's a huge upload and I'm not sure how to reconnect the database (and like say, I'd want to have it on a subdomain). We started fresh because phpBB3 can't do what we need in terms of community software.

I'll look into allowing users to delete their own posts.

We chose to separate the "meat" forums from the user lounge just to keep things clean. We weren't sure if we'd be adding additional forums to accommodate valid community desires or not (eg, we may add an off topic user gallery where people can post their WIPs, even if they're not halo specific). We thought it was best to keep things separeted to keep the total page size and scrolling needed minimal (ie, you can see everything at once at most screen resolutions).

We're currently moderating community content to make sure we can get users to put out quality threads (eg, they're not just posting "here is my map <link>."). However, we may chose to get a community content team going to handle that part of the forum or may just nix the moderation all together. We want to see how things go before we decide on something new.

Perhaps disable it for specific people who are known to produce acceptable content, and then leave it on for new random people?

That's definitely doable, good idea. I'll discuss it with the gang and see how we want to implement that.

I think those may be your moderator privileges talking.

e: Nvm, I just edited the regular members group to have limits. Not sure what limits to use for image sizes tho

I think we could use a "back to top" button along the bar that has "reply, multiquote, report."

So, something like this simple mod?

Edit: teh_lag was nice and added it while he was working on the Halomods theme. If all goes well, the theme (think Halo 2 UI-esque) will be usable by regular members in a couple days.

A quick easy way of seeing what posts in a thread I've already read. If this already exists I can't see it, so its not quick and easy =P

Yeah, I noticed that too. At the subforum view, there will be an arrow image next to the topic title. If you click that, it takes you to the first new post. If you're viewing a forum container (eg, Community Forums) you can also click on the thread title you see on the right hand side and it will take you to the first new post as well.

But yeah, we need a way to highlight new posts

It would be good if to be able to show multiple filters. eg Halo 2 and Halo 2 PC, or All XBox or All Halo 2

Possibly a rating system that is raised or lowered by moderator when a mod sees that a user has submitted something substantial or not, and then allow access to bypassing the moderation queue once they hit a certain rating? (The rating could be invisible as well)
