OpenSauce v4.0.0 Release

Well, that took a while. It's been ~2 years since the release of 3.1.0 but good things come to those who procrastinate.

Download here

Notable additions
  • Directional Lightmaps Diffuse and Specular - Using the process outlined here you can use directional lightmaps in your maps for normal mapped static lighting.
  • Soft Particles - Your particles can now be soft and cuddly.
  • Lightmap and Sky Switching - You can set up multiple lightmap and sky sets to switch between using Halo script.
  • Actor Variant Transforms - Based on a variety of criteria you can make actors change into other types of actor.
  • Unit Boarding - You can now set up all vehicle boarding types seen in later Halo games, with the flexibility to do new things too.
  • In-Game UI - Your OS settings can now be changed in-game using a new UI system which you can access with F7.
  • Running on Halo v1.10 - Speaks for itself really, we've update OpenSauce to target Halo CE 1.10.
  • Fixes - There have been a variety of fixes, which you can read about in the OpenSauce readme.

We have also moved the OpenSauce project to Bitbucket and will be deprecating the google code project shortly. Because of this move, all issues you find with OpenSauce will need to be added to the the Bitbucket projects issues page. On the topic of issues, we've added a crash report generator to OpenSauce which will create an archive with useful debugging information if the game should crash. Include that archive when creating issues relating to crashes.

OpenSauce Project

Massive thanks to the guys and gals of CMT for their assistance in testing OpenSauce, without which we would not be where we are today. Be sure to check out CMT's The Silent Cartographer: Evolved to see a number of the new OS features used to great effect.

Neat fact, the UI uses the GWEN UI library which is the same one used in GMod.

Hey,

I just thought I'd report an odd problem I ran into while I was installing OS. Currently on Windows 10 the OS installer crashes while it says it's "installing DirectX". I'm aware Windows 10 isn't a supported operating system and that it's still in beta however I thought I'd point this out. I believe the issue might have something to do with Windows 10 coming with a newer version of DirectX (version 12). I don't currently have access to the Windows 10 machine anymore, but I should in another few weeks to do some more testing or if you need any more information.

The problem with PCs with 1920x1080 resolution is Halo CE with Open Sauce v4.0.0 won't support upscale unlike Halo 2 Vista. I want to make the game run full screen without screwing the resolution (using native resolution)

Just want to mention that I'm no longer an active developer of OS. I more or less just manage it at a very high level, e.g. offering advice/guidance to FS :P

FS has done a shit load of work basically on this own over the past...damn, going on 6 months now. You guys should shower him with cookies. Unless they're filled with raisins. That's just cruel.

I'm using Windows 8.1. Cant seem to install it unless I uncheck the HALO CE in custom setup.(which I need). Says Wizard ended prematurely(not much more). :(

Has anyone here tried to compile the code base as of recent?

It won't compile for me, and I'm using all prerequisites.

Please guide us through compilatio so we can also contribute.

For those who may want to install OS on Windows 10 I found that enabling .NET 3.5 seemed to allow the installer to work.

Nevermind I got the code to compile, thanks.

Here's a tutorial I made on YouTube to get people started in Cloneland.

Just remove dinput8.dll while HAC is running.

also, I am making a clone of OpenSauce.

How do I call upon tags? I want to reference a tag and swap a unit tag for another in-game, so like Red team is MC/, Blue team is Covenant.

Also, switching weapons in an item_collections tag would be nice.
