  1. What are must-play mods of Halo 1 & 2?

    My LANs aren't as frequent as they were 8 years ago, but I'm hosting one. Possibly going to have over 16 people meaning 8v8 Halo 1 & 2 (4 modded xboxes with upgraded HDD). My question is

    • What are must play mods/maps of Halo 1 / 2?
    • What gametype to accompany them?
    • Are they in a preexisitng mappack (H1:NMP/CXE/CCE/KMP) (H2:Phantom/Killtrocity/Remapped/Fragtastic)
    • If not in a mappack, where is the patch?


    This goes without saying it must be SLC, and preferably no AI (this group doesn't particularly care for AI mods).
  2. Enable Updates on 1 Copy of Halo 2

    On my Xbox, I have:
    • Halo 2
    • Halo 2 Killtrocity
    • Halo 2 Killtrocity 2
    • Halo 2 Phantom
    • Halo 2 Phantom 2


    and so on, and so forth. I would really like to have my legit Halo 2 copy updated (to remove horrible split screen text & fix melee / pistol damage), you know, make it play like it did circa 2006 Xbox Live, but of course not for the modded maps.

    I know there's a trainer option, but I didn't know if there was a setup I could use (something with the default.xbe) that could load the update only for the legit Halo 2 that only uses the launching of the game and not a trainer.

    Any ideas? I know this isn't a popular forum but I'm still hoping for a response.

    I'm hoping some older / semi-active people see this (kornman, xbox7887, etc), but I was wondering if there was any documentation to the early stages of modding, and how the reverse engineering sequence played out. I've tried browsing the Halomods archive and I've found some good ones like Grenadiac's Mapfile Structure and Iron_Forge's Offset List, but I'm interested in how Iron_Forge found those offsets (methods, any other tools besides hex, etc) (Grenadiacs Installment #3 got cut off somehow :/ but 1 and 2 are really close to what I want.

    I recently bought and read Hacking the Xbox: A Guide to Reverse Engineering and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have both the Black Art of Halomods and Halo 2 Hacks, but those are more of using the latest (at the time) programs.

    I'm really interested in how the first mods were discovered via hex editing, but I am really interested in Halo 1, reverse engineering the map structure, finding offsets, etc. If anybody has anything they can link for reading, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    The small progress being made really shouldn't be split from this 10 year old community, but at this point it really doesn't matter. I'm still online 10 hours a day across various forums and social media, I just develop in Unity now, quit playing with the Halo modding tools.

    Don't quite understand how these profile comments work, but Winger, I haven't touched them in months, it's no secret there is maybe 5 people remotely interested and I uploaded every "major" H1 / H2 mappack I had.     Question about Arsenic if you have the time. I'm getting an error whenever I run it. I have a Windows 7 based machine. It's a D3DERR error, and from what I've found online it has to do with my video card. But I've yet to find a proper method on correcting this. Any clues?
